OPERATIONS: GARY RICHIED – Page 6
Remarkably our business has continued to stay strong. Right through the end of the third quarter, and now October and into November the demand for our services has remained pretty steady. We have been so very fortunate in so many ways, especially with the people we work with day in and day out.
The most obvious of these people are our fellow employees and the independent contractors who have done whatever it has taken to get the job done by adapting to the new work environment, and have done an excellent job of this. I covered the many different internal company job functions that need to be completed for us to be successful in last month’s column, but there are so many more.
We are dependent to a certain extent on the many employees of Sirva through our van affiliation. There are our counterparts at all the other Allied and NorthAmerican agents in the United States and all over the world. Here locally we rely on vendors like Goodwillie and Superior to keep us supplied with the materials we need for packing. We work closely with Profection Truck repair mechanics to keep our trucks safe and dependable. The people at Alberti’s make sure the crating needs of our customers are met, CDS keeps us supplied with moving equipment we need, and there are literally hundreds more workers behind the scenes who we trust to take care of us so that we can meet the needs of the customers we are committed to service.
William Makepeace Thackeray, an English novelist wrote “To endure is greater than to dare; to tire out hostile fortune; to be daunted by no difficulty; to keep heart when all have lost it – who can say this is not greatness?” I am proud of all the employees of Reebie, the contractors, and all the other associates that we work with who have not lost heart during these trying times. They are what has made the difference between success and failure.
Once again Frank Russell has distinguished himself as a leader in the driver ranks as an independent contractor as he joined the board of directors of the newly formed Moving & Storage Conference of the ATA as the only Independent Owner Operator to represent the many men and women of this organization. As Mr. Brian Risley of Sirva noted “ATA could not have nominated anyone better.
We will celebrate Thanksgiving this coming month, and although I am sure that it will not be the traditional celebration that we have all come to love and expect, I hope that we can all appreciate the many blessings that we have. Whatever we have had to do without or give up for now we still have so much to be thankful for. May God Bless you.
Happy Thanksgiving
Peace and Prayers
Gary
