OPERATIONS: GARY RICHIED – Page 6
As we finish up the last day of January, I wish I had better news to report on our current status, but all I can say is that we are in the midst of the winter doldrums for the moving business. The hope I had for a strong completion of last year did not materialize in December and we are off to a mediocre, at best, start to this year.
With that being said I want to point out that there is nothing we can do about what has happened, as the old saying goes “there’s no sense in crying over spilt milk”. So we need to direct our attention and all of our efforts in making the best of what we have and be prepared for every opportunity.
Anyone who has been in the moving business any length of time is well aware of the challenges that the seasonality of the moving business presents. It is an annual occurrence that successful companies, such as ourselves, adapt to and adjust for while those that can’t or won’t eventually fail. The fact that 2020 will be Reebie’s 140th year in business is a testament to its solid foundation and strength, but even more so to the many employees and contractors over the years and their ability to succeed at what they do.
George Bernard Shaw came to this outstanding realization that he wrote. “The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them”. While this definitely suggests that salespeople do something for themselves to make up for the lack of leads, it also applies to every employee and contractor to promote awareness of the company’s abilities.
We can all use the spare time this season affords us to examine our many successes and the few times we failed during the last “busy season”. There are always things that we can do to get better at, to insure that we provide our customers with best service available.
On that note, I am pleased to write about yet another award Frank Russell has earned, and that is the 2019 Super Van Operator Lifetime Achievement award from AMSA (American Moving & Storage Association). Frank was selected from the many thousands of drivers of the many hundreds of nationwide moving companies that make up this association. We are very fortunate to have Frank on our team and appreciate this recognition that he is receiving with the hope that all the members may gain some awareness of his many accomplishments.
Wishing everyone a happy St. Valentine’s Day and encouraging all of you to take the time to let those you love, know how you feel.
Peace and Prayers
Gary
