Be Kind – Be Thankful – Be Safe!

There are times in a person’s life when they remember exactly where they were during significant historic events such as the Challenger space shuttle explosion in 1986, or the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, I distinctly remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news of each of these events. According to a 2016 survey, the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was the most unifying and memorable event in most peoples’ lifetime.  I’m not much of a betting person, but I surmise if that survey was repeated today, the COVID-19 pandemic would come in at the No. 1 spot. It’s no great revelation that we’ve all been living a significant shared experience in the last year. However, for 2021, there is a lot of hope…..hope for holidays, weddings and other special events. But for me, it is also hope for normalcy in our jobs. I long for when we can just concentrate on doing the job at hand without the many distractions associated with COVID-19.

One of the positive unanticipated consequences of the pandemic was the increase in consumer moves during the off season. At a time when we are typically looking for things to do, our consumer team has had a nice steady amount of business throughout the winter. Our Consumer interstate business is up 66%, Local is up 8%, and storage is up 20%. But you don’t need the numbers to figure this out, just look at the salespeople’s schedule and you will see this is not your typical year. So, we have to do everything we can to take advantage of the good fortune bestode upon us with this work. Not to imply everything is rosy, we are not up in all business lines, the pandemic has caused major disruptions to our International, O&I, and Account business and this is the business that are typically higher in margin, so no doubt that will put negative pressure on our bottom line.

I would also like to take a moment to congratulate Tim Granata. In 2020, Tim Granata was Reebie’s Salesperson of the Year! No doubt Allied also recognized his accomplishments because they awarded him as the Region 5 Salesperson of the Year and runner up to the Top Salesperson Award. Congratulations Tim Granata!

Finally, I cannot say enough how grateful I am to all of you for everything you have done to support Reebie and keep yourself and Reebie safe during this pandemic. You have each taking individual responsibility to do the right things and follow the CDC guidelines. It is because we have stayed healthy that we have been able to take advantage of this business during these difficult times. You continue to prove, time and again, how invaluable you are to our company, and I am so proud to be a part of this resilient and cohesive team!
