OPERATIONS: GARY RICHIED – Page 6

After just completing my least favorite quarter of the year with sub-zero temperatures, nasty snowstorms, slippery roads, and partial hibernation, which all have such a negative effect on our business, we go right into one of my favorite times of the year.

There are signs of life popping up all over the place. The temperatures are warming up and with that the robins have returned. The grass is regaining its green and the trees are beginning to bud. With the start of spring, we have the other segments of our business, that is besides the interstate which has been carrying the load, showing signs of getting engaged. While local moving is off 23%, office relocation’s down 38%, and international trailing last year by 39% the time for these business lines to get going is very welcome and long overdue.

We will need to build up our work force quickly as it was somewhat depleted over what seemed like a winter that was going to last forever. Now all indications are that we will have as much demand for our services as last year, or even more. It looks like we are going to reach our current capacity at the end of April again so will need to build up for the even more demanding months in the summer.

Fortunately we have a very solid base to build on with the many service providers that we have been able to retain. Their added experience along with the additional training that they underwent recently will help us continue to provide excellent service to our customers. Their level of quality is measured quarterly and here is their latest results.

We will need the combination of their expertise and business lines heating up in April as we prepare for the demands of summer through the incremental building of our labor force.

The same is true for our interstate fleet as once again we will not be able to rely on either Allied nor NorthAmerican for reliable service. So it is with great pleasure that I let you know about two new contractors that are taking the plunge of buying a truck and going into business for themselves. Denis Robinson has signed on with Jackson as a committed long haul van foreman for North American, and Vance Carswell has signed on with Reebie as a committed long haul van foreman for Allied. We will continue to seek out quality owner operators in order to service our ever growing interstate business.

The quote this month is from O.W. Holmes who remarked, “The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving”.

As we journey through this Lenten season preparing for the celebration of Christ’s death and Resurrection at Easter, let us pray more fervently and give more willingly to those most in need of our prayers and the sharing of our many Blessings we have received.

Happy Easter.

Peace and Prayers, Gary
